Thu, 23 February 2006 For money, that is. We give up our careers to raise our children, assuming we'll pick up where we left off at some point. But when the time comes things are different: the market changes, and so do we. Comments[1] |
I came across your posting and two others while looking for a breakdown of if a domestic engineer were paid what would a fair current market price be for the many, many hats and services we provide to our families. I still have to find this information but wanted to respond to you. I am trying to re-enter the work force after a five-year absence and I knew it before and relive it with every rejection, society does not realize what is involved in being a domestic engineer.
It is beyond sad that smart intelligent, talented women who leave the work force to not just pro-create but to nurture those little bundles of joy into hopefully ethical, responsible, individuals who will be the leaders of the next generation, are looked down upon. Not only by the male gender but I have seen it often coming from women also. Some who did the same thing but apparently don’t remember the job of being a domestic engineer or have never done it.
Our society needs to be educated young and old alike in how important of a job this is and give this life supporting position the respect it deserves. My reasoning behind trying to find a pay scale for all the jobs women/wives/moms do is to relate to many of those currently in the work force on their level. To show them in business terms (the bottom line) just what it would cost them to hire the many, many “specialized individual fields to have what is rolled all into one, US.
Feel free to give feed back. Good luck to you.
